I'm Newt Gingrich, and I strongly approve of this ad."

(click, from 1968, via)
The "Grandiose" Newt this week boasted about putting a colony on the Moon by 2020. He will rename Earth's satellite "Newton", after Sir Isaac (not himself). And Lestoil will enjoy a huge resurgence as it becomes the official all-purpose cleaner on Newton. That pesky Newton dust ain't gonna clean itself, subservient housewives. Previously: Cheating husband Gingrich endorsed by cheating husband website.

Okay, that one was pretty obscure.

Explained here href='http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2506&dat=19830427&id=W2hJAAAAIBAJ&sjid=sQoNAAAAIBAJ&pg=4522,8324013'>here, sort of.

Sorry. I'll have to reeducate myself how to do that.

Anyway, there used to be a tv commercial for Lemony Ajax dishwashing liquid. "Take it from a professional dishwasher, new Lemony Ajax gets dishes so clean, you can hear them squeak."

Something like that, anyway.

In 1965 Richard Avedon edited and photographed the April issue of Harper'z Bazaar. The cover featured Jean Shrimpton in a Day-Glo space helmet. See below. The woman in this ad looks like her; just a little.
